Applications for the 21st round of Local History Grants were launched by Government Services Minister Danny Pearson, who said community organisations can apply for up to $15,000 to help share, record and preserve the state's fascinating history.
He said the aim of the programme was to enable community-based groups to convey stories of their local areas, preserve important historical collections and boost opportunities for people to engage with local history. He added:
“Whether it is for the digitisation of records, the publication of local history stories or an upgrade to a museum, the Local History Grants Programme ensures that the stories of our past are available for future generations.”
Flyer printing campaigns have often helped to spread the word of many projects funded by grants programmes such as the Local History grants which make history within the community more accessible.
The grants, which fund projects state-wide, have already contributed to a number of projects including upgrades to the ILBIJERRI Theatre Company to enable it to archive three decades of history. It has also funded many other projects, including podcasts and oral histories, websites, Auslan translations, collection cataloguing and interpretative signage. Grant applications must be received by January 30, 2023.
