A proposal by Wyndham city council to rezone Werribee properties is to be submitted to the Office of Geographic Names.
The proposal will seek to rezone around 400 properties in both Werribee and surrounding Wyndham Vale after receiving a boundary review request from a building developer. The rezoning will affect properties from Greens Road as far south as Bulban Road.
According to Wyndham mayor, Councillor Mia Shaw, the review had been sought when it was discovered a number of properties that were under development in the Mambourin estate would have a different post code to others in the same estate. Businesses that relocate, or have their address changed, can use local Print shops to update their Business Cards.
Councillor Shaw further commented that council had consulted with police, fire and ambulance services and concluded that the name change would reduce any confusion with the ability of emergency teams to respond to residents who dialled triple-0.
Services noted that the use of the name Mambourin for both the suburb and the name of the estate may cause first responders to have difficulty identifying the correct location of the caller. Councillor Shaw cited council’s duty of care in ensuring that public safety was taken seriously, as one of the factors in adopting the rezoning.
Council has sent 550 letters out to residents effected by the boundary changes, with official paperwork notifying non-resident owners to be sent out during the next few weeks.Get a Free Quote for Business Cards Get a Free Quote for Print
