Held to recognise and celebrate the community's young artists, the competition is a joint venture between Wyndham Art Gallery and Wyndham City Council. It allows children to develop and build artistic skills while creating portraits of people they like at free art workshops, which are presented digitally.
Ludo Campbell-Reid, the city's Liveability and Design Director, said that providing an outlet of creativity for children can help strengthen their connection and pride to the community of Wyndham. He urged local kids to get involved, and added:
“The competition is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the young talent of Wyndham residents and presenting it in a way that presents a vibrant and bright creative experience for residents and visitors.”
Held in conjunction with the annual Wyndham Art Prize, the Wynnies gives children the chance to contribute to the community's creative fabric, with entrants in 2020 able to view their individual works in Werribee's library windows.
Artistic works by local children have proven popular on a variety of materials, from Promotional Products to Postcards.
Children are able to submit entries in-person at one of the workshops or art events, or alternatively, they can do so online by accessing the city's website. The competition will end on April 18, 2021.
