Shopping centre in Werribee adopts safety measures

The management of a Werribee shopping centre is poised to install modern emergency markers.

Pacific Werribee will have GPS coordinated marker points fitted. This will make the shopping centre the first in the whole of the country to use the technology, and the emergency services may find it less difficult to deal with any future incidents as a result of the innovation.

The shopping centre could mention the emergency points in promotional material, so marketing services in Werribee might be consulted on the issue.

Jonathan Codman, the centre manager for Pacific Werribee, told Ragtrader:

“As with other large centres, there can be difficulty in locating the patients within the Centre when incidents occur, and in situations when every minute is critical, that is quite concerning.”

Ambulance Victoria and the shopping centre teamed up alongside the Emergency Services Telecommunications Authority (ESTA) to prepare the project. Seven markers are to be situated at strategic locations within the shopping hub.

ESTA has an abundance of experience at working with the equipment in question. On a state level, 2,700 markers have been installed already. One advantage of the system for a shopping centre is that ordinary people and centre security can both make use of it if there is a need for action. The alphanumeric code on the markers facilitates swift dispatch of the emergency services when such an intervention is needed.
