Sports clubs from Werribee and around the City of Wyndham have the chance to get funding to help them bring healthier food to their club canteens and at their events.
The money is in the form of grants of up to $1,000 and is being funded through Wyndham City Council’s Healthy Together initiative, which works with schools, businesses and local organisations to encourage people to become more active and live a healthy lifestyle.
Clubs can apply for different levels of grants, with the lowest level involving making just three changes towards healthier eating, which could be as simple as eating oranges at half time in a game.
Successful grant applicants could use printing services once the healthier menu is up and running, creating leaflets or menu cards explaining the new changes to members and visitors.
Those awarded funding will also be invited to a workshop run by one of the council’s healthy eating officers to learn more about developing a healthy eating policy, and the areas in which they can make changes.
Representatives from Werribee clubs thinking of applying can attend an information session at the Wyndham Civic Centre tomorrow, October 14, to find out more about the process.
Registrations can be made through the council’s website, which also has more information about the scheme. Applications are open now and close on Thursday, October 29.
