Residents of Werribee may soon get a new international airline service at the airport closest to their suburb.
The Air Asia flight service between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, which currently operates from Tullamarine Airport, may be moved to Avalon Airport in late 2018. This flight route which runs twice a day will be the first of hopefully many international flight services based at Avalon Airport.
Avalon Airport, which is located 50 kilometres southwest of Melbourne, and around 20 minutes’ drive from Werribee, will become Victoria’s second international airport this year.
An amendment was made to the Avalon Airport lease back in 2015 by the federal government, allowing the Airport to add an international terminal, build new runways, or modify existing infrastructure to make space for international carriers to move in. The new lease also removes any restrictions for international carriers. The airport is expected to receive funding from the federal and Victorian government for the required building works and new services. Apart from adding quarantine, border force, and immigration agencies, the airport will also require a new international terminal.
Avalon Airport hopes that their securing Air Asia to operate its premise and future new infrastructure will increase their appeal to other international airlines.
Air Asia is an award-wining low-cost carrier. The company often carries out advertising campaigns, including poster printing and display at various locations, especially at offices of travel agencies in various countries.
