It is expected that detailed designs will be forthcoming before the end of the year, when early works are also set to begin.
According to Mayor of Wyndham, Josh Gilligan, Tarneit Road is to be duplicated between Leakes and Sayers roads to provide for an extra lane in both directions, as well as upgrade works to the Leakes-Tarneit roads intersection.
Mayor Gilligan said that once completed, the upgrade will boost the capacity, while also reducing congestion along the busy road. He added:
“We know that Tarneit Road is often gridlocked, that’s why we’re funding this important upgrade, which builds on the duplication works already done along this stretch.”
The Derrimut Road and Boundary Road intersection is another busy traffic spot to be the subject of a detailed design and upgrade. Mayor Gilligan said that the location attracts in excess of 25,000 vehicles a day, and congestion during peak hour has seen the rate of collisions rise to a high level.
Flyer printing campaigns have often been initiated to ensure locals are aware and kept up to date about the progress of major road projects such as these.
Mayor Gilligan said the improvement of local roads was a key priority of the council's 2020/21 budget, and would also include the resurfacing and reconstruction of various other roads throughout the area.
