Representing a great opportunity for artists of all levels to have their existing and new works featured in a major exhibition at the local Wyndham Art Gallery, while also competing for top prize money, the Art Prize has been renowned for attracting some of the country's top artists during the past eight years.
Last year, the competition recorded its highest level of entries, with in excess of 300 works. A total of 84 artists were listed as finalists, and the total included 20 from Wyndham City. Flyer printing campaigns have often been used to help advertise competitions like this.
Art professionals and independent curators will judge entries, while Wyndham Gallery curators Olivia Poloni and Dr Megan Evans will select those to be shortlisted. This year's judges include Andy Butler, Haley Millar Baker and Maree Clarke.
In a statement, councillor Marcel Mahfoud said local artists were encouraged to enter, adding:
“The Wyndham Art Prize is our Gallery’s premier exhibition and is a wonderful opportunity for both new and upcoming artists as well as seasoned artists to exhibit their works.”
Artworks for the Art Prize will be accepted from a wide range of disciplines, incorporating everything from drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking to video, digital sound, installation, textiles, photography and more.
Entries close on 1 April, and the announcement of winners is scheduled for 19 April, followed by the showcasing of entries in an exhibition to run 2 July to 7 August.
