Footscray locals are soon to be treated to an incredible journey of culture and connection with the world-premiere performance of In Place.
This acrobatic show has been meticulously curated for over 12 months, and is led by Na Djinang, a First Nations troupe combining circus skills and articulate storytelling.
Na Djinang strives to create work that combines social and political appropriation with storytelling that challenges preconceived notions of contemporary society.
Troupes like Na Djinang can utilise poster printing to advertise and promote their events to a broader audience.
In Place centres on the intricate understanding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders have of their natural world – a knowledge that is passed down through generations.
In preparation for In Place, participants have each taken care of a native plant, and these plants will be seamlessly interwoven into the performance, uniting art and nature to explore the impact of society on the land and its people.
Performances of In Place will be held from the Wednesday, 16 to Sunday, 20 of October, and can be seen at the Footscray Community Arts Centre. The show will run for approximately 65 minutes, and tickets range from $5 for West Community Members to $30 for the public.
Attendees can book their tickets via the Footscray Community Arts website. The venue is wheelchair accessible, with audio assistance available.
