The colour blue has been an integral part of the culture of Victoria University for a very long time. Recently, in a partnership with the Maribyrnong City Council, the university has called for both professional and amateur photographers to submit entries to a competition to capture the colour in and around Footscray.
Titled ‘Picturing BlueScray’, the competition has now closed, with over 120 entries having been received.
Picturing BluScray is a part of Victoria University’s BluScray program, which will continue through the latter half of 2016. An exhibition of the entries received in the competition will run through July, concluding with the announcement of the People’s Choice Award. Total prize money is $2,000, and entry to the exhibition is free.
The university was founded in 1916 and the exhibition celebrates its centenary. Some of the photographs submitted include images of the Maribyrnong River, studies of street art found in Maddern Square and activities in Little Saigon Market.
Following the exhibition, from August through to November the celebrations will continue with events with a blue theme, blue lighting and artwork throughout central Footscray. It is likely that the exhibition will be publicised with Brochures and Flyers, no doubt making heavy use of blue themselves.
The exhibition will be open until July 22 at Victoria University Metrowest campus, in Nicholson Street, Footscray.
