Sculpture exhibition set to delight Footscray area

Footscray locals are invited to visit “Planting A Garden In My Head”, a sculptural exhibition by emerging Melbourne artist Laetitia Olivier-Gargano.

The exhibition features hyper-surreal sculptural pieces depicting suburban life and inspiring meditation and thought.

Olivier-Gargano’s work was inspired by the Japanese suiseki, or “scholar’s rocks”, which are prized for their aesthetic appeal. After receiving the Freedman Foundation Travelling Scholarship for Emerging Artists in 2019, Olivier-Gargano travelled to Japan, where she researched the practice and process of creating iconic Japanese food samples, rendered in plastic.

According to critics, in this exhibition Olivier-Gargano blurs the boundaries of the familiar and the complex, allowing her work to encourage both wonder and restlessness.

Her installation includes realistic depictions of food and rocks, everyday objects that are elevated by the fact they are displayed for others to view. These familiar items call up deep memories, emotions and associations.

Within this exhibition, the viewer is encouraged to identify and appreciate the beauty and comfort in these seemingly mundane items.

Organisers of art installations or exhibitions can utilise poster printing, an effective and attractive way to advertise an event and draw interest from the wider public.

“Planting A Garden In My Head” will be showing in the Atrium of the Incinerator Gallery, 180 Holmes Rd in Aberfeldie, near Footscray, until 19 January 2025. Attendance is free.
