Footscray will be hosting the Pasifika Festival and Charity Walk this March.
The Pasifika Festival is a way for families and community members to celebrate and enjoy Pasifika culture by experiencing traditional dance and music, food, and art and craft, as well as children’s activities. Celebrating and learning about other cultures has become an important part of Australian society.
A focus of the Pasifika Festival is to raise funds for different humanitarian projects in the Pacific Islands. A large part of these funds is raised through the charity walk at the beginning of the event before the festival starts. There is a shorter walk for children and a longer, 5km walk for adults to accommodate all levels of fitness and enthusiasm.
The humanitarian projects funded from this event empower women in the Pacific Islands. The local women are helped to gain an education, and eventually employment. Developing the ability to financially support their own families makes a positive difference in many lives of Pacific Islanders.
A useful way to keep Footscray locals and visitors informed about events such as this is through poster printing, detailing activities taking place.
This event is organised by the Women’s Federation for World Peace Australia, in partnership with Pasifika Council of Victoria and the Victorian Multicultural Commission. It will be held on Saturday 28th March from 10am-3:30pm at Footscray Park.
