Three consortia have been shortlisted for the construction, design, finance, and to maintain the new hospital at Footscray.
A joint venture between Western Health and the Victorian Health and Human Services Building Authority, the $1.5 billion project has reached the stage of finalising the consortia to handle the development.
The shortlist includes Advance West incorporating ISS, John Holland Services, John Holland and Tetris Capital; Exemplar Health featuring Spotless, Lendlease and Capella Capital; and finally, Plenary Health incorporating Compass, Honeywell, Multiplex and the Plenary Group.
Once a successful consortium has been finalised, construction is expected to begin late in 2020 towards a 2025 completion.
The Footscray Hospital will take a corner position at the junction of Ballarat and Geelong roads and is expected to help greatly in reducing pressure and cutting wait times at nearby hospitals.
In addition to providing research, training and teaching spaces, the new hospital is to include a minimum of 504 beds for inpatients, clinical support spaces, specialist facilities, acute facilities and car parking spaces for staff, visitors and patients.
The new facilities will boost patient numbers to receive treatment by 15,000 as well as catering to a further 20,000 more people in the emergency section.
Community engagement has been a big part of the project since its inception and a community consultative committee, headed by local MP Katie Hall was established to discuss details from the graphic design stage to the current day.
