A landscape concept targeting the Mills Close precinct has been devised by Maribyrnong City Council.
The plan was initiated to reinvigorate an almost forgotten part of Footscray, Victoria, and reconnect it with the15 hectare heritage-listed Footscray Park.
Garden structures, ornamental ponds and a unique botanical collection set the park apart from others, contributing to its reputation as one of the country’s largest examples of an Edwardian-era landmark.
The landscape concept also seeks to improve access from Ballarat Road to the Maribyrnong River, and to add a more appealing interface where it meets Victoria University.
As part of the plan, Footscray Park’s historic garden plantings would benefit from an expansive new landscaped area; developers also intend to convert the existing depot building into a café. The river and Mills Close would be better linked with the introduction of new steps.
The original idea to improve the area formed part of the Footscray University Town initiative which involved both Victoria University and the City of Maribyrnong.
Enhancing the area – including Footscray Park, which has long been a popular venue for photographers seeking images for Posters and postcard printing – is the ultimate aim of the project. Thousands of residents and visitors are drawn to the park annually to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle on the banks of the Maribyrnon River.
Feedback on the proposed concept was being accepted up until July 22nd.Get a Free Quote for Posters
