Music lovers in Footscray will be spoilt for choice when the Jazz Out West festival takes place in a few weeks’ time.
The festival is run as part of the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, which starts at the end of May and features some of the best Australian and international jazz musicians.
Fans in Footscray will be able to listen to a range of styles, including New Orleans funk, soul, and African-inspired music.
Among the acts will be acclaimed ensemble Way Out West, which includes trumpets, accordions and the koto, a Japanese stringed instrument. The group will perform at the Footscray Community Arts Centre on Thursday 3rd June.
The festival line-up is completed by Melbourne’s newest brass band, Horns of Leroy and Hey Frankie, a band exploring jazz and funk.
On Saturday, 7th June, locals can learn more about the sounds of Footscray with a walking tour around the streets and waterways. The same evening, music lovers can enjoy a traditional Ethiopian meal accompanied by funky Afro-beats at local restaurant African Town.
Fans should look out for poster printing that advertises each of the individual gigs around the area. Brochure printers have also created a complete programme that can be requested from festival organisers.
The Melbourne International Jazz Festival takes place from Friday, 30th May to Sunday, 8th June. For more information, visit the Melbourne Jazz Festival website.
