Footscray residents are being encouraged to get involved and clean up their local environment next month.
Clean Up Australia Day is one of the country’s largest volunteer events and encourages people to tidy up open spaces in their neighbourhood. Last year around 600,000 volunteers took part across the country.
This year’s event takes place on Sunday March 3rd in the Maribyrnong area, which includes Footscray, people can either volunteer to help at the council’s designated clean-up site or register their own site for the day.
The council’s designated site is Skinner Reserve on Churchill Avenue in Braybrook and the clean-up takes place from 10am to midday. There will be a free barbecue afterwards, which is open to volunteers from sites across the area.
Anyone who would like to register their own site can contact the council to nominate a park or garden that they would like to tidy. Once sites have been registered, flyer printing and poster printing are great ways of advertising the event locally, attracting more volunteers.
The council is holding a briefing for site supervisors on Wednesday February 13th so supervisors can learn more about how to run a clean-up and the equipment and support that will be provided by the council. The briefing will take place at Footscray Town Hall at 7pm.
To discuss registering a site, or for more information, contact Maribyrnong Council. Information can also be found on the Clean Up Australia website. By registering on the website, site supervisors will receive a clean-up kit to help them on the day.
