Movies made by students from the Footscray City Film Project will be among those on show at this year’s Setting Sun festival for shorts.
The celebration was held for the first time in 2014, when one of the project’s students took home an award in the Best Secondary film category.
This year students on the course, which is based at Footscray City College, have entered several films into the event, including a drama called Jacque’s Depose and the documentary Lost in Music.
Another documentary to be screened is called My Footscray, which examines some of the stereotypes suffered by Footscray and interviews local people about what it is really like to live in the area.
A number of other filmmakers from around Australia, some of whom are newcomers and others who have been making films for many years, are set to take part.
Poster printing will no doubt be used to advertise the screenings, and a programme containing full details of this year’s line-up can also be obtained on the opening night.
The event will open with a special party and end with an awards ceremony, with prizes being given in several different categories, including best documentary, best screenplay and best tertiary entry.
The festival takes place at the Sun Theatre in Yarraville between Thursday, April 16th and Sunday, April 19th. Tickets are on sale now. For more information, visit the theatre website.
