Footscray commuters urged to get on their bikes

Workers in Footscray are being encouraged to ditch their cars and use pedal power to get to work later this month, as part of Australia’s annual Ride2Work day.

Organised by Bicycle Network, Ride2Work is a nationwide event that aims to get more people using bikes during their commute to improve health and reduce congestion and pollution.

Last year, around 50,000 people registered and 60 per cent of those who participated reported they were still riding to work more than five months after the event.

To support the ride, Maribyrnong City Council is organising a free breakfast for all cyclists before they head to work. Held at the corner of Napier Street and Moreland Street, healthy food, delicious baking, juices, and hot drinks will all be on offer. During the breakfast, police will be engraving bikes to prevent theft and safety checks will be available. There will also be spot prizes up for grabs for riders.

Poster printing is a great way of advertising the event, and keen cyclists wanting to encourage their friends or colleagues to get involved can download an official poster from the Maribyrnong City Council website.

Ride2Work takes place on Wednesday, October 15th and the breakfast will be held between 7.30am and 9.00am. For more information about the event and advice on getting started with cycling, visit the Bicycle Network’s official website.
