Festival brings independent art to the city

Theatre and art lovers should head into Melbourne this month for the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

Showcasing an array of independent arts, the festival is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, with a packed programme featuring more than 4,000 performers and over 300 shows. The festival is a popular event in Melbourne with a record crowd of more than 250,000 people last year.

There is something for everyone on the programme, with comedy, cabaret, circus acts, and even special shows for children and families. It also features a number of public artworks on display around the city.

Most of the shows take place around the Fringe Hub in north Melbourne, so it will be just a short journey for anyone from Footscray looking for some entertainment. Many of the shows are free while tickets to popular events can be booked in advance online through the festival’s website.

While much of the festival’s promotion is done online nowadays, flyer printing and distribution is also a popular way to publicise events like this.

This year, to mark the 30th anniversary the festival is also asking visitors to get involved with its Double Take photo booth. At the booth, people will be able to select a picture of iconic Melbourne and recreate it with the help of the Double Take team. The photographs will be exhibited as part of the festival.

The festival takes place from Wednesday, September 26 to Sunday, October 14. For more information, or to book tickets, visit the Melbourne Fringe Festival website.
