East African food experience on offer to Melburnians

Melburnian food lovers have an opportunity to indulge in a unique gastronomical experience and explore the streets of Footscray.

The African Foodie Trail is an unusual way to experience East African cuisine, which is greatly influenced by Turkish, French, Indian, British and Egyptian flavours.

Blends of spices can be enjoyed by attendees in dishes such as Matoki or lamb stew, warm Ethiopian bread known as Injera and a starchy dish called Fufu. Other Sudanese dishes are also on offer and include spiced pancakes and porridges that are served with various hot sauces.

Footscray is home to over 5,000 African descendants which makes it perfect for this event. The experience combines a walking tour of the area with a progressive three-course meal at an African café and restaurant. Attendees will have an opportunity to visit a grocery store to learn about berbere spices and purchase original Ethiopian coffee. Business Cards are often utilised at events to hand out to attendees to provide contact and website information to prospective customers.

The walking tour is suitable for most people and is undertaken at a leisurely pace. The total amount of walking is approximately 30-40 minutes in total with a rest time at each venue. It is recommended that attendees wear comfortable footwear.

The next African Foodie Trail event will take place on 19 September at 11:30am, beginning from outside Footscray Station. Booking information can be found on Eventbrite.
