Following its postponement in June this year, the biennial Blacksmiths Festival is returning in 2022 with the distinctive ring of the hammer against hot metal.
Originally started in 2013, the free community event run by the Waterside Blacksmithing and Metal Art Association now attracts thousands of attendees and has become one of the most celebrated events in the local social calendar.
The festival will include a range of displays and activities for attendees over the weekend, including metal forging classes, furnace displays, and hand-crafted metal sculptures. The more experienced blacksmiths will also treat people to a display as they work together to create a new sculpture intended to be displayed on the New Footscray Wharf. Changes to community events and festivals such as this can benefit from flyer printing to help advertise the change of date to locals.
The Festival also plans to run a special fire-free kids’ zone, which will allow kids aged 5 to 12 years to try their own hand at cold forging small items with the guidance of expert blacksmiths. Meanwhile, older attendees keen to try their hand at the ancient artform are invited to participate in free “taster” sessions designed for beginners.
The 2022 Blacksmiths Festival is now scheduled to run from April 9 to 10, 2022 alongside the banks of the Maribyrnong River.
