The Maribyrnong area enjoyed its biggest ever Australia Day party this year, and Footscray residents were on hand to join in the fun.
As part of the celebrations, a citizenship ceremony was held with 60 new citizens from 20 countries being welcomed as Australians. The council also presented its 2014 Civic Awards, which are given to people who have helped improve the lives of others within Maribyrnong City.
There were five award categories this year. One recognised the young citizen of the year, while another was awarded to the volunteer of the year. There were also awards for the business of the year, and the community group of the year. The final recognition was for groups that work with emerging communities.
After the ceremonies, there was plenty of entertainment to enjoy including live music from the Tanjil River Band playing well-loved Australian folk songs and the chance for children to meet Woofer, mascot of the Western Bulldogs, and pick up some souvenirs.
The family friendly day also included face painting, a bouncy castle, displays, and demonstrations. A sausage sizzle offered traditional Aussie food, or for those who wanted to try something different some of Melbourne’s food trucks were on hand serving up international cuisine.
Special events like Australia Day can create treasured memories and photographs are a great way to keep memories fresh. Asking a printing company to create high quality prints from photographs can be a good way of sharing those memories with family and friends, as well as providing a lasting keepsake.
