The man who conducted the world’s largest orchestra of 7,223 musicians in Brisbane last year is set to perform live at Melbourne Town Hall.
Trumpeter James Morrison has teamed up with his Big Band to present a musical evening of swing classics.
The event is being held on the doorstep of inner Melbourne suburbs such as Richmond, but is also expected to attract interstate visitors to Victoria.
The program will feature big band favourites from the likes of Frank Sinatra, George Gershwin, Duke Ellington, and Glenn Miller. Jazz vocalist Emma Pask will also mark her 20th anniversary of performing with Morrison.
A multi-instrumentalist, Morrison is not restricted to the trumpet. He also plays the piano, double bass, saxophone, tuba, flugel horn, euphonium, and trombone.
The recipient of many awards, Morrison has performed extensively on the national and international stage and played with many jazz legends, including George Benson, B.B. King, Ray Charles, and Dizzy Gillespie.
He has also performed for Princess Anne at the Royal Opera House and played with the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Albert hall. Morrison was awarded an OAM in 1997 for services to the arts.
Last year, the musician, who has featured on brochure and poster printing campaigns across the world, accepted the Queensland Music Festival role of Artistic Director.
James Morrison and his Big Band will perform at Melbourne Town Hall on August 23rd.
