Richmond council to present public speaking training

A workshop designed to help people improve their ability to speak in public is being held at a civic hub in Richmond.

Community groups in the City of Yarra area, including Richmond residents, are invited to pick up new skills and training this winter. Yarra City Council is holding a workshop in the suburb called “The Art of Public Speaking” and is offering free access to support citizens, non-profits, committees and community organisations.

Council leaders providing supportive learning experiences for residents sometimes count on flyer printing services for easy-to-read materials that get the word out and improve attendance numbers.

The training event aims to help participants overcome fears of public speaking and build up confidence in their abilities. It centres on understanding audiences, creating memorable messages and employing storytelling to influence and inspire. The event will also examine the psychology that impacts communication, like resistance to change and bias, and discusses how to customise messages to suit different settings.

The session will also include instruction on how to apply public speaking skills when engaged in a networking conversation.

The Art of Public Speaking workshop will run at Richmond Town Hall on Wednesday, August 12. The civic building is based at 333 Bridge Road in Richmond, and the session starts at 9.30 am. While the workshop is entirely free to attend, booking beforehand is mandatory.
