Richmond to welcome English alt group

An iconic band from England’s alternative music scene will soon play a set for Richmond audiences.

Richmond’s renowned gig spot the Corner Hotel will be extending a warm welcome to English indie music icons Pop Will Eat Itself. Local venues often consult professional Print shops to create promotional Posters, Flyers and other materials to advertise the events they host.

Affectionately known as the PWEI or “The Poppies”, the band are named after a quote by NME journalist David Quantick, who suggested that music had no fresh ideas and would regurgitate itself. They have become known for genre-blending music and an unconventional attitude towards their live performances.

The band’s drummer, Graham Crabb, once commented:

“We’re not trying to present the fact that we’re proficient musicians, we’re not. It’s about entertainment, so if we run about the stage and bump into each other and somebody fluffs a note, it’s all part of the fun.”

PWEI will perform the entirety of their second album entitled This Is the Day...This Is the Hour...This Is This!, along with an encore of classic tracks like Everything's Cool and Ich Bin Ein Ausländer.

Pop Will Eat Itself will play at the Corner Hotel, situated at 57 Swan Street in Richmond, on Saturday, September 10. The show will begin at 8 pm and end after midnight. The venue has zero-tolerance policy regarding unsafe behaviour like stage diving and crowd surfing.
