The Richmond Club Hotel is hosting a ‘parmarathon’, calling upon lovers of chicken parmigiana to visit daily from now until September and order the dish, with the promise of prizes for the most devoted diners.
The entrant who eats the largest number of parmigianas by September 5 will be entitled to one year's worth of free parmas, with a total value of approximately $1,100, while the entrant in second place will be rewarded with a $250 voucher for food and drink.
Scott Clarke, manager of the hotel, predicted that the winner will have to eat about 30 parmas and described the contest as an entertaining way to promote the dish, which is already the most popular on its menu. Competitions such as this are a creative way for venues to attract new customers and repeat business from existing customers, and can be supported by poster printing to help bring the event to the attention of the public.
Participants are permitted to record up to one parma per day on the competition's leaderboard. There is no entry fee, and anyone who enters will receive their first parma free of charge. The normal price for the parma is $23, and it is available at a discounted price of $16 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Entries to the competition got underway on June 16.
