Popular soul singer to wow Richmond audiences

Fans of innovative soul and gospel music in the Richmond area might wish to enjoy the live spectacle of Eli “Paperboy” Reed, supported by the Harlem Gospel Travelers and The Meltdown in May.

Reed has been singing since 2005. With nine albums under his belt, he is a soul music trailblazer. Accompanying him on this tour are the gospel vocal group known as the Harlem Gospel Travelers (HGT) who blend traditional gospel with funk and soul in a more modern spin and were actually mentored by Reed. HGT’s first album, He’s On Time, came along in 2019 to positive accolades and led to a series of festival appearances.

The members of HGT are Dennis Bailey, George Marage and Ifedayo Gatling. The latest album release is Rhapsody, which was also produced by Reed. Touring in 2025 with their mentor, HGT encompass a sound that is both modern and traditional. As Marage has said:

“…when you come to see HGT, you’re coming to see a show and youre gonna feel better about yourself, you’re gonna feel better about the world, you’re gonna want to do better.”

Local blues/jazz/soul band The Meltdown will also be playing, adding to the colourful mix.

Popular musical events are often advertised by means of poster printing from local printing establishments.

20 Years of Eli Paperboy Reed tour with Harlem Gospel Travelers and Meltdown are appearing at the Corner Hotel on Swan Street in Richmond at 7.30pm on 8th May. Tickets cost $97.60.
