New programme to teach skills on taking climate action

Community members from Richmond and throughout the City of Yarra who are keen to take action on the issue of climate change are being invited to participate in a council-run training programme.

Yarra has joined Moreland and Darebin councils to present the programme, which will be held over nine sessions. Its objective is to support members of the community to take positive steps and action regarding climate change.

In a recent Yarra City media release, the council stated that climate action could be taken in a number of ways, such as in conversations, community projects, advocacy, campaigns and more, and it urged anyone who had engaged in environmental or climate issues previously, as well as newcomers, to join the programme.

According to the statement, the programme is ideal for people who want to get more involved in climate action, develop new skills, work and meet with others who share their climate action passion, or want to extend their impact and reach through existing or new networks.

The topic of climate change is a hot issue that has been the focus of numerous flyer printing campaigns in communities across Australia.

The programme, to be held on nine Thursday evenings between 7pm to 9pm from April 22 to September 2, can cater for 25 participants from each council area. Expressions of Interest to take part in the programme will be accepted until March 14, 2021.
