Grants provide helping hand to creative Victorians

Three Richmond entities working within Victoria's creative industries are among the first to receive grants as part of the state's Sustaining Creative Workers initiative.

Clowns Music is to receive $10,000 to undertake a new album under the scheme, while Troy Emery and Selena Pertzel Makeup have both been awarded $5,000 each.

An estimated 400 creative industries organisations, workers and micro-businesses are set to benefit from a total of $2.4m in funds allocated for the grant scheme with the aim of assisting in protecting careers within the sector, helping it to rebuild following the COVID-19 pandemic and enabling businesses to explore new opportunities.

The industry, which provides employment for an estimated 280,000 people across Victoria, has been hard hit by the pandemic with event cancellations, filming shutdowns and venue closures leaving creative industry workers and associated trades unable to work.

The first recipients of the grants will have an opportunity to undertake a number of activities such as setting up online stores to help expand their exposure or sell Promotional Products, buy streaming equipment or build on business skills. The activities may also include hosting virtual tours for publicity, launch events online or adapting shows that had to be cancelled into online exhibitions, audio plays or podcasts.

The diverse list of grant recipients, which ranges from rapper BIRDZ and author Name Lee to artist Lisa Roet and The Listies children's group, is available on the Creative Victoria website.
