The document, called “A Community Vision”, will detail the community's aspirations, interests and needs for Yarra over the long term. It will be owned, developed and driven by the people of Yarra through a widespread engagement process, of which Yarra City will be the facilitator.
A council spokesman said that between now and January 2021, locals will have an opportunity to share their ideas about what is required to make Yarra the greatest it possibly can be by 2035, adding:
"This is a once-in-a-generation chance to make a mark on this special place we all love. It’s also an opportunity to challenge some traditional ideas about how we live, work and play – particularly as we move into a post-COVID world."
The spokesman said everyone is welcome to take part, including residents, people who own businesses and those who work or visit the area. Online workshops will be held during December and feedback is also encouraged through planned pop-up events, workshops, direct outreach and online engagement.
The next step will be to put together a community panel, for which expressions of interest will be called. The panel, which will get together in mid-2021 over a period of several weeks, will review results from the first consultation stage. Participants will not need any special skills, and printing services will provide documents with large Print for those who require them.
