Whitehorse Council encourages youth to enter competition

Youth living in Mitcham and surrounding suburbs are being encouraged by the Whitehorse City Council to participate in a new initiative created by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.

Takeover Melbourne is a competition that aims to provide a powerful platform for the youth of Melbourne to be heard. The ABC are hoping that both high school students and those who are outside of formal education, who are between the ages of 12 and 18 years old, will submit a story about their life.

Entries must be true to the author’s life and reflect an aspect of it. Entrants’ stories can be submitted in the format of their choice, such as text, audio or video. The recommendation is that written pieces be 400 words and video and audio two to four minutes in length. Students may enter more than one piece of work if they wish.

The competition winners will have an opportunity to work with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation producers and their work will be featured on ABC radio, TV or online.

Councils often use graphic design and poster printing to advertise competitions of this nature to local residents. The Whitehorse City Council believe this provides their youth with a wonderful opportunity to share their lives and shape the future of their local community. Details of how to enter as well as advice and tips on how to approach the competition to achieve the best results are available on the ABC website.
