Whitehorse Community Hub set to open in spring

Residents of Mitcham and surrounding suburbs are set to benefit when the Nunawading Community Hub opens its doors in the spring.

The Community Hub, which is close to completion, is set on the site of the former Nunawading Primary School. Council purchased the site on Springvale Road from the state government in 2015 with the aim of transforming it into a hub that will benefit the wider community for many years to come.

The Hub will become the home to Meals On Wheels and numerous community groups and will include features such as a kitchen, communal teaching areas, a multipurpose sports stadium and specially designed spaces for art, dance and counselling. The council plans to utilise solar energy, reuse water and incorporate environmentally-friendly materials in its design.

Mayor Councillor Sharon Ellis has assured residents that the heritage site is being preserved and the school buildings carefully restored to retain the historical significance.

The new centre includes landscaped recreation areas with cycling and pedestrian paths to link the green areas to Tunstall Park. Plenty of onsite parking will be available with 200 designated spaces.

Ireland Brown Constructions is keeping residents informed of disruptions, noise and any hazards they may encounter during the completion of this project. Building companies may make use of printing services to create Blueprints of projects they are working on.
