Top artworks on show in annual school fundraiser

An estimated 600 works of art have been on display as part of the Canterbury Primary School's 43rd annual exhibition.

The show, held each year, represents a major fundraiser for the school and attracts thousands of art enthusiasts from nearby Mitcham and across the state of Victoria.

Held throughout May, the event this year featured works by fashion designer/artist Jane Mogensen and former child artist Kirsten Jackson.

Making people feel happy was a key to Jackson's works, which are full of colour and brightness, according to the artist. She said each of her paintings exuded a positive energy that drew people in to take a closer look.

Mogensen was a student of Terrence J. Hadler, a renowned contemporary artist.

Her pieces have won several awards, and brochure printing for several exhibitions has featured her artwork as a finalist on a number of occasions.

TV series The Block also featured one of her paintings in an episode last year.

Anna Elliston, an exhibition committee member, said the show had built up quite a following over the years by both artists and visitors.

She said a professional and well-organised approach to the staging of the exhibition each year was fully appreciated by all exhibitors and attendees.

Some artists whose works appear in the exhibition have hosted many of their own solo exhibitions, and are also sought worldwide to contribute to corporate and private collections, according to Elliston.
