Guest speakers, stallholders and industry leaders have been enlisted to make this year’s Positive Ageing Expo one of the best on offer.
The event is taking place as part of the council’s Seniors Festival, which is held each year for a full month to applaud the city’s older population and the valuable contribution it makes to the community.
Seniors make up more than 20 per cent of the city’s residents and come from a range of suburbs, including Blackburn, Box Hill, Burwood and Mitcham, Victoria.
The theme of the 2014 Positive Ageing Expo is ‘Taking Good Care of Yourself’ and, according to Whitehorse Cr Philip Daw, the Expo participants reflect that message wholeheartedly.
A program of topical guest speakers will cover everything from advanced care planning and the benefits of a bucket list to exercise and the older adult. Elder Abuse Prevention Co-ordinator Kaz Mackay will also speak on the award-winning short film Ghost Train.
Hearing loss, exercise benefits, living with Osteoporosis, anxiety disorders, strategies for recovery and retirement village options will also be among topics presented on the day.
Cr Daw said in addition to a long list of topical speakers the free event to be held on October 2nd at the Whitehorse Centre offered more than 30 stallholders.
Printing services have been used to produce the full Whitehorse Seniors Festival program, which is available from the local senior citizens’ centre, community house, and local library.
