Search on for communitys young achievers

City of Whitehorse Council is seeking nominations for outstanding young achievers who live in Mitcham and surrounding areas.

Councillor Andrew Munroe said the search is on for young people who contribute in a positive way to the local community and would be worthy of receiving Council’s 2018 Young Person of the Month Award. He stated:

“The awards celebrate the efforts of local young people and their contributions to the community. The recognition is a wonderful way to encourage young people to build on their strengths and to pat them on the back for commitment to a chosen field.”

Cr Munroe said previous winners represent a long list of motivated and talented achievers who have contributed a great deal to the wider Whitehorse community.

Koonung Secondary College Year 12 student Michaela Clare-Cover is the latest recipient.

He said that in addition to academic excellence, Michaela has helped a range of charitable causes by taking on leadership roles for major fundraising events. Events like these are often advertised via a range of methods including flyer printing.

Winners of monthly award receive a voucher from JB Hi-Fi and their stories are told within the pages of Council’s Whitehorse News.

Cr Munroe said printing services provide a hard copy of the award to enable recipients to include it with future resumes.

In addition, all 2018 winners will have an opportunity to receive the title of Young Citizen of the Year for 2019.
