Local workshop encourages second lives for unneeded clothes

A Smarter Living Workshop will be held at Nunawading, close to Mitcham, to demystify the process of uncluttering the wardrobe and assist people who are having trouble discarding those clothes that are no longer worn, yet are still in good condition.

The second-hand clothing industry is always on the lookout for good quality, pre-loved clothes. Tips will be provided on current methods of staying fashionable without hoarding clothes that never get worn.

A panel of fashion and recycling experts from second-hand clothing companies, charities and clothing recyclers will be speaking at the event, including image consultant, author and owner of the Penny Lane clothing exchange, Peta Stephenson. Neil Harvey from charity chain St. Vincent de Paul will be another speaker, as will Gayle Seddon from clothing and homeware recycler SCR Group.

Whitehorse City Council is combining with neighbouring Manninham City Council to produce this event with the aim of promoting smarter living in the community, while also addressing the problem of waste in the environment and the practice of illegal dumping. Events of this kind usually use marketing services and may see Business Cards in distribution.

The Smarter Living Curbing Clothing Waste workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Waratah Room in the Whitehorse Centre at Nunawading. Entry is free, although booking is essential.
