Launch of council map site set to help residents access local services

Residents of Mitcham, Victoria, could soon benefit from the introduction of an interactive map site by the City of Whitehorse Council.

This latest innovation by the local authorities, known as Whitehorse Maps, will replace the former Mapping – GIS Online service and help residents to access locally available services.

According to Whitehorse Council’s Philip Daw, the easy access via the mapping system to information about council facilities and services will be of great assistance to residents, helping them discover more about what is on offer in their community.

He said access was simple, with residents only needing to enter their address, after which they could find out everything from the area’s waste collection days to transport routes to health centres, libraries and local parks.

The site also offers a number of unique features, including one that enables residents to glance back half a century to see what their suburb looked like then, thanks to the help of 1960s-based historic imagery.

Cr Daw said the quick-click Menus offered a way to directly link with services and facilities closest to individual residents. Other options provided on the interactive mapping site include an aerial view of the city and the closest transport routes to residents’ homes.

The site, like flyer printing, will be able to put community information at the fingertips of residents throughout the city.
