Residents from throughout Mitcham and surrounding areas of Victoria were treated to an exhibition that celebrated 125 years of Kingswood College.
The milestone was celebrated with the display of extensive archives that traced the Box Hill college's history from its very beginning.
Councillor Andrew Davenport, of the City of Whitehorse, said there was a long history associated with Kingswood College, which opened when the area was predominantly a rural agricultural community back in 1890.
He said originally it was an all boys' school known as New College, and in later years was called The Box Hill Grammar School.
The exhibition, entitled 125 Years of Kingswood College, portrayed the school's history with uniforms, sporting equipment, school textbooks, student Notebooks, poster printing and old photographs.
Cr Davenport said the college led the way for co-educational schooling, which it introduced in 1933. In 1965, it was renamed Kingswood College.
In addition to marking the 125th anniversary with an exhibition, Kingswood College also held a combined school reunion, which included the classes of 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005, as well as a few earlier groups.
The night gave former students a chance to rekindle old friendships and relive memories of their school years at the old college, which has become a popular landmark in the area.
The facility has also commemorated its 125 years by producing a book, which is available for purchase.Get a Free Quote for Notebooks
