The new and innovative Nunawading Community Hub, located on the site formerly occupied by the local primary school, will house in excess of 30 community clubs, groups and services. It was described as a brilliant community facility by Mayor Sharon Ellis, who added:
“This is a fantastic place to gather together and strengthen local connections. It’s a place where our residents can benefit from a diverse array of community groups, interests and quality services."
She said the initiative was among the city's most ambitious and exciting projects, and is a facility that will provide community support well into the future.
The hub will house a multitude of local community associations, clubs and groups, including the council-run ‘Meals on Wheels’, as well as an array of activities including crafts, dance, sports, arts and more. In addition, a selection of services, such as counselling, disability, health, migrant and mental health will also be available.
Services such as these are often widely advertised via flyer printing campaigns throughout the local area.
The hub contains two inter-connected studios, five meeting rooms, seven studios for activities such as art, shared dining space and kitchen, a sports stadium and more. It also features an ecologically sustainable design, which incorporates features such as LED lighting, durable and natural timbers, renewable solar energy, double insulation and rainwater harvesting.
