Comedy brings Pete the Sheep to Monkey Baa

The rewards and challenges of being an individual are dominant in the Monkey Baa Theatre Company’s latest production of Pete the Sheep.

Aimed at children aged from three to nine, the show is a comedic musical about newcomer to the town Shaun, a Shaggy Gully sheep shearer who elects to work with Pete the sheep rather than a dog to round up the flock.

As part of the story, this is considered quite unusual among the locals, who reject him for being different.

Young theatre lovers from Mitcham, Victoria, and surrounding areas will welcome Shaun’s initiative in starting up his own shearing salon for woolly customers keen to benefit from his styling prowess. The result is believed to produce much laughter from audiences.

A picture book inspired the production, which is directed by Jonathan Biggins. Phillip Scott composed the music, and talented trio Tim McGarry, Sandra Eldridge and Eva Di Cesare adapted it for the stage.

Performers have put their imaginations to work in filling the roles of sheep, dogs and shearers, ensuring a good time for all who attend.

Promotional images of a sheep wearing a hat amid a huge flock of woolly companions, on flyer and poster printing, reflect the spirit and humour of the production.

This comedy is due to appear at the Monkey Baa Theatre for one performance only, on July 10th at 10am.
