Classic American musical to play in Nunawading

Recently revived Broadway musical, The Music Man is due to play over two weekends in Nunawading in March.

The Music Man opened originally on Broadway in 1957. The musical won a Tony Award for Best Musical and four other Tony Awards. With the cast album winning the first ever Grammy Award as well - for Best Musical Theatre Album - its success led to a film adaptation in 1962 and a television adaptation in 2003.

The plot revolves around con man Harold Hill, who visits a mid-Western town, selling instruments and uniforms, with the promise of creating a band., but with a secret plan to skip town with the money. Marian Paroo, the librarian, is sceptical about him, but is won over in part by Hill’s positive influence on her brother Winthrop. Hill and Paroo are united in the finale on 4th July, after false starts along the way.

Popular tunes from the musical include Seventy-Six Trombones, ‘Til There was You and (Ya Got) Trouble. The latest Broadway revival was in 2022, with Hugh Jackman playing Harold Hill and Sutton foster playing Marian Paroo.

The Music Man is showing from Friday 21st until 23rd March, and Friday 28th March until 30th March at The Round, 379 Whitehorse Road, Nunawading, with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets cost $56.
