In an effort to tackle ageism in the community, the Whitehorse City Council has extended an opportunity for kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to obtain grants towards the facilitation of intergenerational activities that will connect children with seniors.
Suburbs including Mitcham have the opportunity to get involved with the project by organising interactive activities that see the aged community respected as sources of wisdom and strength. Interested schools have been advised to make contact with aged care facilities, seniors’ activity clubs, service clubs and sporting clubs as part of the intergenerational initiative.
Ageism has not gone unnoticed by the Victorian Government. Local governments across the state have flagged the issue and have also initiated their own actions. Many districts, including Whitehorse, are already involved with organisations such as Every Age Counts in an effort to bring acceptance and inclusion to the ageing community.
Such important community initiatives often require Promotional Products to be distributed to prospective participants. The project is expected to send out a positive message to communities, and not only in the City of Whitehorse. The hope is that ageism will be eradicated and a new attitude towards ageing will be fostered by younger generations.
Grants of up to $1,000 are available to facilitate activities to help develop the project throughout the rest of this year and well into the future.
