Public transport users from Mitcham and across Victoria are being invited to take part in the Mobile Myki transport ticketing trial.
An estimated 4,000 passengers will be enlisted to test the new technology, according to Minister for Public Transport, Melissa Horne. The latest trial comes hot on the heels of the first phase of testing which involved an industry-based group of users.
As part of the mobile Myki system of ticketing, passengers can purchase a Myki, top up their credit and touch off and on utilising their Android smartphone. This system, according to Horne, makes travelling easier, more convenient and quicker and she added:
“It’s so exciting to see this cutting-edge technology take the next step – with thousands of passengers getting a chance to trial Mobile Myki. This is a great opportunity for passengers to help us shape the next generation of transport ticketing.”
Mobile Myki, undertaken in conjunction with NTT Data, uses all current Myki ticket readers and gates across buses, trams and trains throughout regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne, without any new infrastructure required to be built.
Everything from full fares, child and concessions to Senior Mobile Myki’s will be available as well as auto top-up. Myki is among the largest of the world’s smart ticket systems with printing services delivering in excess of 17 million active cards annually.
Passengers who would like to register their interest for the trial which will run until late March can do so via the Public Transport Victoria website.
