Australia Day will be celebrated with a mix of Australian country music and ABBA for residents of Mitcham, Victoria, and the neighbouring suburbs.
The City of Whitehorse’s twilight concert, which will be free to attend, is set to offer a live show featuring some of the Swedish pop group’s biggest hits, including ‘Gimme, Gimme, Gimme’, ‘Take a Chance’ and ‘Mamma Mia’ performed by award-winning tribute band Bjorn Again.
Taking a break from work on songs for his next album, Country Music Channel (CMC) Hall of Fame winner James Blundell will provide a country flavour to the evening, while Pants Down Circus will deliver some up-tempo rock ‘n’ roll for audience members.
Organisers have also planned a grand finale featuring an explosive fireworks display as a major highlight of the night.
Celebrations will begin with amusements and free rides for the children from 4.30pm, and food stalls will open an hour later with a wide range of treats for sale.
As will be happening around the country, presentation of the City’s Australia Day Awards and a special citizenship ceremony is scheduled to take place immediately preceding the concert, which will be held from 6pm to 10pm.
The venue will be the Soundshell Stage on the Whitehorse Civic Centre lawns in Whitehorse Road, Nunawading.
Event details are expected to be featured on a flyer printing campaign leading up to Australia Day 2015.
