The annual awards, presented by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria and Public Record Office Victoria, were introduced to recognise Victorians and their contributions to preserving the history of the state’s communities.
Printing services were used to create the 25 Print publications that reached the shortlist and they were joined by 17 history projects.
The entries ranged from Her Majesty’s Theatre Melbourne – The Shows, The Stars, The Stories by Frank van Straten and La Nostra Storia – The Story of Italians in Ballarat by Jan McGuiness to Victoria’s Earliest Potteries – Our Convict Era Potters by Gregory Hill.
Other stories were based on prominent Victorians such as the creator of the National Gallery of Victoria Great Hall’s stain glass ceiling Leonard French, artists George and Minka Mora, doctor of note Mary De Garis and civil engineer and public servant Carlo Catani.
Gavin Jennings, the Special Minister of State, said:
“These awards pay tribute to those historians, writers and creative individuals who’ve done their best to ensure our history is never forgotten.”
Cash prizes of between $500 and $2,000 will be awarded to successful nominees together with $5,000 for the ultimate winner of the Victorian Premier’s History Award, to be announced on October 14.Get a Free Quote for Print
