UK soulful sounds to grace Melbourne

Fans of jazz and mellow sounds will likely be keen to attend a laid-back soulful evening in the company of the smooth UK band The Brand New Heavies when they visit the Melbourne CBD area next month after a spate of warm-up festivals at home.

The London group, formed in the mid-1980s, were popular in the club environment and soon gained a cult following. Formed around the song-writing and instrument-playing duo Simon Bartholomew and Andrew Levy, the band is best known for hit singles in the 1990s, featuring the female lead singer N’Dea Davenport.

The play list on the night is likely to include Dream On Dreamer, Midnight at the Oasis and You’ve Got a Friend. The current lead female vocalist is Angela Ricci, and although there have been other changes in the line-up, the founder members Bartholomew and Levy are still very much part of the set up as songwriters and producers. In 2020, the band was nominated for a Lifetime Achievement Award.

Bands with a large following often rely on Banners and Posters printed by local Print shops to draw in an audience from as wide an area as possible.

The Brand New Heavies will perform at 170 Russell, Melbourne on 29th July. Tickets cost from $89.90, with the doors opening at 7pm. This is a rescheduled event.
