Melbourne comes alive with summer events

With summer now upon us, Christmas looming and New Year’s Eve following on its heels, Melbournians are flocking to local festivals and events, enjoying the opportunity to get out into the sunshine. At this time of year celebrities, sports stars and bands from all over the world come to visit our little corner of the earth.

Launching the summer events calendar is the ever popular, family friendly Vision Australia's Carols by Candlelight®. Each year roughly ten thousand carollers flock to the Sidney Myer Music Bowl to sing with the stars on Christmas Eve. Carols by Candlelight® is also broadcast on the big screen at Federation Square in Melbourne and on Channel Nine, 3AW and Magic for those unable to get tickets to the event.

For sports fans some summer highlights include the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and the Australian Open 2012 at Melbourne Park. Although the cricket tends to be more reserved, the Open promotes itself loudly with glossy Brochures, Banners, stickers and Flyers – a boon for printing companies.

Music lovers can check out Melbourne Big Day Out at Flemington Racecourse, 29 January, 2012. Big Day Out brings many international artists to Melbourne. This year they include Röyksopp, Soundgarden and Kanye West along with local ARIA award winners like Kimbra, Boy & Bear, Art vs. Science and Architecture in Helsinki. A drive through most Melbourne streets will show bridges, walls and poles plastered with advertisements for these artists and other upcoming gigs. Flyer printing is a booming business at this time of year.
