Come and celebrate with the city as it commemorates its 183rd foundation day.
Melbourne was first settled on 30 August 1835 by persons travelling on the Enterprize. The city’s founders travelled north of the Bass Strait looking for
sheep-grazing land because of rising land costs in Tasmania. Melbourne’s first settlers disembarked from the Enterprize on the northern bank of the Yarra River. As with new settlements, the city was first established near a water body where Enterprize Park is located today.
A variety of events are planned for the celebrations. Starting the celebration, a welcome from the traditional owners of the land and the flag raising ceremony. Entertainment will be courtesy of performances from the Victoria Police Band, Young Australian Broadway Chorus, Creativity Australia Choir, and so much more. A first settlers landing re-enactment is also in the cards, including Gilbert the city’s first feline.
Part of the celebrations will include free cupcakes and showbags to be given away.
Melbourne Day 2018 celebrates the city’s foundation day on 30 August 2018, 10:30am at Enterprize Park, Melbourne CBD.
