The Holi Festival, also known as the Colour Festival, is set to return to Melbourne CBD in March.
This colourful event has its roots in Hindu tradition and celebrates the beginning of spring in India. Billions of people take to the streets in every region of India to play, dance and splash one another with bright paint powder. Now Melburnians have an opportunity to join in the fun.
This annual event, which continues to grow in popularity each year, can best be described as a paint war, festival, parade and dance party all wrapped into one energetic event. Families are invited to enjoy a day of laughter as they engage in splattering strangers with a kaleidoscope of paint powders.
The festival includes numerous other attractions as well. It boasts all day music for dance lovers, international performances, children’s rides and a selection of food from a variety of Melbourne’s finest food trucks.
Events such as this promote harmony and multicultural awareness in a city that celebrates diversity and organisers often make use of poster printing to advertise their events.
Whether you wish to spend the entire day or a few hours, this free event is suitable for families who wish to enjoy a taste of Indian culture and mingle with others.
The Holi festival takes place on Saturday 7th March at The Paddock, Federation Square from 11:30am to 7:30pm. Flinders Station provides easy access to this event.
