Baz Luhrmann’s Moulin Rouge film of 2001 is brought to life in the jukebox musical, and contains many songs from the film, including extras by the likes of Beyonce, Rihanna and Adele. The musical won ten Tony Awards, including that of Best Musical and played to packed auditoriums everywhere. It premiered in 2018 at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston and was co-written by Luhrmann and Craig Pearce.
Audiences in Melbourne previously ensured that the sell was a sell-out and The Guardian called it:
“A love affair with itself, sensual and passionate and ridiculously entertaining.”
The Financial Times calls it:
“A riotous night out.”
All who attend are likely to fall under the spell of aristocratic bohemia set in a hedonistic world of glitter and glory.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical – The Spectacular Returns is taking place from 20th August until 24th December at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. Tickets cost from $139. The show runs for approximately two and a half hours, including a twenty-minute interval.
